Under the Federal Government enacted Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), effective January 1, 2014 we will be operating under a new health care system. With a few exceptions, everyone will be required to show proof of health insurance or pay a tax penalty. Having a pre-existing condition will no longer matter. Insurance companies will no longer be able to charge a higher rate because of a pre-existing condition. Some employers may stop offering health insurance to their employees. Those employers offering coverage may find themselves seeking lower cost options. Some insurance plans may be inadequate in order to meet the minimum coverage requirements. These factors alone will send millions of employers, employees, individuals and families in California out into the marketplace to shop for health insurance. Many will be eligible for financial subsidy assistance to help them afford coverage. Many options will be available and we are here to offer assistance.
