IMPORTANT Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP) Transition Information
Watch your regular US Mail this month for very important information about your PCIP health insurance policy that will cease on 07/01/13.
Due to a lack of program funding, effective 07/01/13 California will no longer operate the existing California state PCIP program. You will need to activate a new PCIP benefit plan through the federally-run PCIP before July 1st if you want to continue coverage through 2013. Any current policyholder that is enrolled in a recurring payment plan will be removed.
This month you will be sent an enrollment letter to include cost and information on how to enroll into the federally-run program effective July 1, 2013. To receive your new PCIP Medical ID Card by July 1, 2013, you must pay your 1st month premium (for JULY) by the date indicated in the letter.
If you do not receive your transition enrollment information by mail in the next 2 weeks, we suggest that you contact the state PCIP office at (877) 428-5060 M-F from 8am to 8pm or on Saturday from 8am to 5pm.
If you have any questions about the federally-run PCIP, you can call them at (866) 717-5826 M-F from 5am to 8pm.
Unfortunately the state has decided not to provide any specific rate information or plan information to individual Brokers to assist with this particular transition that will carry you through the remaining months of 2013. We will however be contacting our clients via email some time in October 2013 to discuss the options that will be available 2014 whether you choose to purchase health insurance inside or outside of the health insurance exchanges. This will be yet one more transition towards our new health care system that officially starts next year.
